The history of the paper band
The paper band is made with several paper threads and was originally created to tighten carton boxes as a packaging material. Even though the bands are made out of paper, they can hold up to 70kg to 100kg. This has made them a well known and important packaging material used to close heavy carton bags containing such things as rice or barley for storage. Moreover, paper bands are used for decorative packaging these days, and Ueda Industrial Co. Ltd make high quality paper bands under the brand name of Papies which are loved by everyone. As a well-established Japanese paper band manufacturer we now have more than 50 varieties of coloured paper bands to motivate your creativity and enjoyment when making bags, baskets and other goods.
Strong, light, and free to create.

Ueda Industrial Co. Ltd
Ueda Industrial Co. Ltd makes its paper bands in a natural environment provided by its location at the base of Mt Fuji. It is necessary to have pure clean water to make Japanese paper, "WASHI", which is the base material for paper bands. We keep the quality of our products high by using our source of naturally filtered spring water provided by the snow melt from Mt. Fuji.
The attractiveness of Japanese paper: WASHI
Washi, is the base material necessary to make paper bands. This paper was made with ancient wisdom. We continue to use this wisdom and are not dependant on modern chemicals, only what nature provides. It is a well known strong, non-debased material - paper that was made a 1000 years ago can still be be found today! There are two types of Washi; traditional artisan hand-made paper, and machine-made paper (which applys the hand-made technique in an automated way). This genuine Japanese paper making technique brings out the warmness of Washi paper and the detail of the real artisan article that is not seen in most European paper.
